The Summer Experience Camper Letter
Soon you’ll be standing in front of your luggage wondering what to pack, who’s going to be there, what will the weather be like, and what will “The Summer Experience” offer you. Those are all great things to think about and we wanted to give some insight into the answers just to help you come as prepared as possible to this camp experience.
The first thing you need to know is that we call this The Summer Experience for a reason. We don’t just want you to sit and watch or be talked at during this week. This week is created for you to engage in opportunities to know God, know yourself, and know the community around you. In order for us to make this experiential, we need you to do the following;
Bring 1 School pride t shirt. Be ready to represent your high school!
Returning students, bring your sorority or fraternity shirt from last year. If you are new, bring a white t shirt for this!
Directed Free Time. This is a time each day where you do something you enjoy as you find ways to connect with God through culture. The “directed” part lasts 30 minutes. We will invest give you some input and then you can choose to keep going with it during free time if you want. The options will include: Videography, Photography, Music/Worship, Dance, Art, Crafts, Woodworking/repurposing, Preaching/teaching, poetry/prose, lights & media, and sport. Why tell you this now? Because we want you to feel free to bring tools to enhance your experience. You can bring cameras (with docking stations/usb cables), video cameras (with chargers and cables), guitars, art supplies, poetry books, journals, Bibles….you get the point. We’ll help you keep everything protected and neat. If you have a question about bringing something, just e-mail me at the address below.
Paintball will be offered on Friday. The cost to play will be $10 for CO2 and paint. We have 16 guns available at camp but you can bring your own gun as well. Check them in at registration. We will keep them locked up for you until you play and then will return them to our storage until you go home on Saturday.
Our mission for the week will be One21. Please bring some $$ to invest in this ministry that promises invest back into your generation. In the past we have taken a love offering as well as hosted an auction at the end of the week. Come ready to support a great cause that is resourcing your generation. Your gift will: help our staff support, fund a One21 Retreat in Monterrey MX, and sponsor the HOPE program with Back2Back ministries.
What to bring; Bible, summer clothes (shorts, t shirts, jeans, etc.) tennis shoes, bedding, bathroom essentials, swimsuit (one piece only ladies), bug spray, flashlight (please bring one, you’ll need it). Optional: cleats, camera, $$ for extra snacks or one21 apparel. Yoga pants can only be worn if your shirt covers to your thighs, tank tops for guys must have thick straps.- We can ask you to change if we really think you need to.
What NOT to bring: spaghetti straps, deep v necks, short shorts, tobacco, drugs, alcohol, ipods/mp3 players, or any weapons. You will not be allowed to have a cell phone once you arrive at camp. Please make sure to turn it off and put it away when you get here.
Registration will open at 4p at the SNACK SHACK (on the right as you enter camp). You will not be able to register before that time, nor can you get your spot in the dorm before you register. Make sure you have either paid in full before you come to camp or bring payment with you.
So what should you expect from camp? An amazing experience with God. That’s what we know. How is it going to play out? You’ll have to wait and see. We have room for your friends. . . .it’s even better when they are with you! Don’t be afraid to invite them. You won’t regret it.
If you have questions, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
See You at Camp,
